These ZIP Codes lead the Capital Region for Business and Job Growth Since the Pandemic
The ZIP codes covering parts of Clifton Park, Slingerlands and East Greenbush have added the most jobs in the Capital Region since the start of the pandemic, according to a Center for Economic Growth (CEG) analysis of new U.S. Census Bureau County Business Pattern statistics.
Between mid-March 2020 and mid-March 2022, nearly 100 ZIP Codes in the eight-county Capital Region experienced job growth and more than 110 had more employer establishments. The 12065 ZIP code for Clifton Park had the region’s largest employment gain (+1,256) over that two-year period. During the same period, the 12207 ZIP code that covers parts of Albany’s downtown and warehouse districts had the largest employer establishment increase (+60).
Other top-gaining ZIP codes in the region for jobs included 12159 in Slingerlands (+775), where Plug Power opened its hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing facility in the Vista Technology Park; 12144 in East Greenbush (+670), where Regeneron Pharmaceuticals recently developed a second manufacturing and warehousing campus; and 12302 in Schenectady (+627), which includes the Glenville Business & Technology Park, with several expanding manufacturers that include Adirondack Beverages, Dimension Fabricators and BelGioioso Cheese.
The Capital Region ZIP code with both the largest jobs net loss (-2,065) and the largest employer establishment net loss (-36) was 12203, which stretches from downtown Albany to Guilderland.
Employer establishment growth was especially strong in ZIP Codes covering downtowns in the region’s rural counties.
