“Richard Zack has started six companies in his lifetime, but his latest was founded with a new energy.

Zack most recently was the founder of Our.News, a Troy tech company whose software allowed users to identify misinformation online. After that closed in June 2021, Zack went on to have his first experience working for a large company as vice president of software at Canonical, a firm based in London.”
At Port of Coeymans, offshore wind industry work is booming

“The Port of Coeymans is a hub of activity connected with the wind power industry.

The Capital Region’s involvement in wind turbine manufacturing is still in its infancy, with a promise of thousands of jobs and considerable economic impact to be realized.”

A US semiconductor industry in crisis needs a workforce that doesn’t yet exist

“As the federal government spurs the re-shoring of semiconductor manufacturing in the US, the industry faces a hard fact: schools haven’t been training the workers.

Kendall McDaniel felt like a nomad worker, wandering from job to job, never making enough money, never feeling fulfilled. He worked entry-level jobs in construction, in healthcare and at multiple fast-food joints.”

Carver Cos. buys former Curia office building for new HQ

“Several years ago Carver Cos. consolidated all of its New York office operations in Coeymans, where it owns and operates the Port of Coeymans.

It quickly ran out of office space.”

Eric Narcisco starts Tracker, a company that creates scans of rental properties

“Entrepreneur Eric Narcisco is back with a new startup after selling his previous company three years ago.

Narcisco is now the founder and CEO of Tracker, a software company based in the Capital Region that uses artificial intelligence to digitally scan and document rental properties.”

RPI, NY CREATES, others get $30M from Department of Defense

“A group of New York state research centers, universities and tech firms known as the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub has been awarded $30 million from the Department of Defense to work on next-generation computer technologies, including quantum computing.

NORDTECH, as the group is known, was founded by five organizations, including NY CREATES, the nonprofit that operates the Albany NanoTech complex, along with the University at Albany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering, Cornell University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and IBM.”

St. Mary’s physicians are using Suki, an AI app that takes notes

“When people think about artificial intelligence integrated into the medical field, they often think of Star Wars, Mike Maus, chief revenue officer for Suki Assistant, says. Suki is starting somewhere simpler.

As of March, St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam is the first hospital in the Capital Region to integrate Suki, a digital assistant for physicians that is powered by artificial intelligence, into its facility. Suki is an application that can be utilized on a computer or phone. Once a patient gives consent, Suki listens to, records and takes notes of a conversation between a patient and doctor.”
