Albany firm advances in state energy contest
“An Albany heating and air conditioning controls firm is one of 20 companies from the U.S. and around the world selected as finalists in a clean energy contest run by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
Connexus Controls, located on Western Avenue, was formed in 2013. Out of a pool of more than 150 firms that entered, NYSERDA will select six winners this fall to share in $2.5 million in prizes.”
SingleCut Beersmiths begins Clifton Park brewing operation
“SingleCut Beersmiths, the New York City-based brewery that purchased the Shmaltz brewery facility off Van Patten Drive, will release its first beer brewed at the new location next week.
SingleCut General Manager Dan Bronson said the company started brewing in the new location in late May and hopes to be in full production by September, with kegs and cans from the new facility being distributed throughout the East Coast.”
New organic dairy bullish on farm’s future
“Sam Cottrell has spent his entire adult life building a general contracting firm, one of two dream jobs he’s always wanted.
Now, at 72, he’s decided it’s time to try the other.
Cottrell and partner Eric Ziehm have started a new organic dairy, High Meadows of Hoosick, that’s going into business when many conventional farms are struggling to survive in this era of extremely low milk prices and rising production costs.”
SUNY Adirondack culinary students to become ‘Seasoned’
“Budding culinary chefs looking to become more “seasoned” at their craft will be able to hone their skills at SUNY Adirondack’s downtown Culinary Arts Center starting in the fall.
The community college is leasing about 8,000 square feet of space at 14 Hudson Ave. for its program. This will include a 100-seat restaurant called Seasoned @ 14 Hudson, which will be open in October, according to culinary arts instructor Matt Bolton.”
BD, having bought Bard, is hiring 45 workers or more
A medical device company has gone on a hiring spree after buying Bard, which has a well-known local manufacturing plant.
BD has put up signs on the bike trail, is passing out flyers and recently changed the sign at Bard on Bay Road as it tries to hire 45 new employees.”
