How the CEO behind Beekman 1802 is building the national brand into a competitive business
“Beekman 1802 is building on its national brand of chic upstate living.
The retailer and lifestyle company is moving to a new, larger executive office at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady, adding additional warehouse space in Sharon Springs and hiring new employees.”
SCCC to offer google IT certificate program
“Schenectady County Community College will offer Google’s “IT support professional certificate” course for the first time in the fall, according to an announcement Monday.
The program, organized and funded by Grow with Google — Google’s economic opportunity division — will be taught by JFF, a workforce development nonprofit organization, according to the prepared statement.”
RAD Soap signs deal with Universal Studios to make Jurassic World-branded products
“AD Soap Co., the Albany company that makes plant-based body and beauty goods, has signed a deal with Universal Studios to create Jurassic World-branded products, co-founder Sue Kerber told the Albany Business Review Tuesday.
The Jurassic Mask and Jurassic Muds are made with 200 million-year-old mineral deposits recently discovered on the West Coast. The compounds are believed to have originated in the Jurassic period, for which Universal’s dinosaur blockbuster series is named.”
SEDC announcing major chip design initiative
“Saratoga Economic Development Corp. is going to unveil plans Friday to create a new computer chip design initiative in downtown Saratoga Springs.
The announcement will include officials from Clarkson University, SUNY Adirondack and the Center for Economic Growth, in addition to SEDC President Dennis Brobston.”
Business incubator in former Catholic school breaks ground
“After three years in the works, the conversion of a vacant school building on Central Avenue into a business incubator is moving forward.
Located at 279 Central Ave., the three-story building will eventually include affordable work spaces for startups and entrepreneurs, “learning labs” focused on workforce and business training and a historic restorations laboratory. It is called the STEAM Garden, an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.”
Beekman 1802 and Ommegang are looking for a few good makers
“Brent Ridge and his partner Josh Kilmer-Purcell’s struggle to turn a 19th century farmhouse and 60 acres of land in Sharon Springs into a fully functional farm and home goods brand has been well documented on their reality show The Fabulous Beekman Boys, their memoir The Bucolic Plague: How Two Manhattanites Became Gentlemen Farmers, and fairly steady presence in various other media. The pair’s business includes a lifestyle brand that has been sold in major retail stores across the country, an almanac, a reality show, a physical store in Sharon Springs and a cookbook. Nasdaq called Beekman 1802 one of the “fastest growing lifestyle brands in the country.”
As big as they’ve gotten, the Beekman Boys are still very invested in the area and, through a partnership with Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, are looking to spotlight the work of other local makers and creatives. Local artisans and craftspeople can sign up through Beekman to display and sell their goods at Ommegang’s Belgium Comes to Cooperstown event, which takes place Aug. 3 and 4.”
