Produced and prepared on the farm for the table
“The next frontier for local farmers might well be glimpsed at 9 Miles East, a 29-acre farm in rural Saratoga County.
Workers harvest vegetables and take them to a kitchen, where an assembly line of employees uses the produce to make dozens of salads and soups. The prepared dishes are then packed in coolers and placed in vans that will transport them to families and businesses in the Capital Region and the greater Boston area. Korean beef stir-fry, green gazpacho, chicken tikka masala and pork shoulder with spring vegetables are on this week’s menu.”
Capital Craft Beverage Trail launches passport program
“he Capital Craft Beverage Trail (CCBT) has launched a Passport program designed to help Capital Region residents plan fun, educational and rewarding visits to the many craft beverage producers that make up the CCBT.
The new passports are free of charge and are available at any of the producer member locations, and the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center. The members of this program produce fermented and distilled beverages from Warren, Saratoga, Schenectady, Washington, Rensselaer, Albany, Columbia and Greene counties.”
Amazon wants 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Rensselaer County
“Amazon.com Inc. would fill a 1 million-square-foot distribution center that a developer wants to build in Schodack, New York, employing at least 800 people full-time when it opens in the third quarter of 2019.
Amazon’s involvement in the project, which has been kept secret for weeks, was disclosed Monday night during a planning board meeting in the Rensselaer County town, about 15 miles east of Albany.”
“Town planners on Tuesday will continue their review of a major redevelopment project for the former Starlite Theater property.
An affiliate of Galesi Management Corp. wants to build Ayco Corp.’s new headquarters at 629 Columbia Street, where the popular entertainment venue once stood. The entire site occupies about 58 acres.”
Altamont winery gains gold medal for cider
“Meadowdale Wines at Black Creek Farm won a gold medal for their iced cider at the eighth annual New York International Wine Competition in New York City this month.
The winery won for for a cider that is closer to wine in alcohol content, compared to other such ciders that are similar to beer. This contest is judged by retail store buyers, sommeliers, restaurant beverage directors, hoteliers, distributors and importers.”
Albany’s FuzeHub lands $150,000 grant from DOE
“FuzeHub, an Albany nonprofit that assists manufacturers in the state, won a $150,000 grant from the Department of Energy to help inventors pair up with domestic manufacturing companies.
The grant was an award through the Energy Department’s American Inventions Made Onshore prize competition, and the FuzeHub will specifically target cleantech hardware startup companies, offering them workshops on how to best design their products and work with potential manufacturers.”
Why this manufacturing executive keeps betting on Glens Falls (Video)
“When the hockey arena in Glens Falls, New York, was struggling financially, Elizabeth Miller was part of a group of bankers, lawyers, educators and developers who stepped in to save it.
Miller, who owns Miller Mechanical and Doty Machine Works, also invested more than $3 million to renovate The Park Theater in downtown Glens Falls so she could re-open the 1911 building as a theater and restaurant.”
Rental management app startup seeking $500,000
“The local creators of a mobile app that connects apartment renters with their landlords and makes the rental process more convenient are seeking investors.
Ryan and Ed Barone of Latham-based RentRedi filed documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission outlining plans to raise $500,000 in equity.”
Druthers to open Mohawk Harbor location Friday
“highly anticipated addition to the city’s restaurant/bar scene has finally set a date for its debut.
Druthers Brewing Company announced on its Facebook page late Tuesday night that it will open its doors to the public at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in Mohawk Harbor’s Riverhouse complex. This comes almost a year after the brewery originally said it would be open.”
