Albany Nanotech’s NanoFab Reflection project gets new budget, new financing

“The cost of the Albany Nanotech Complex’s new building has increased by nearly $120 million.

The board of NY CREATES, the organization that operates the complex, approved an increase in the budget for NanoFab Reflection to $614 million on Monday. The previous budget, approved in March, had been $495 million.”

Collar City Mushrooms moving to Indian Ladder Farms

“Collar City Mushrooms closed its Troy facility on Sunday as the company begins a relocation to Indian Ladder Farms.

The businesses have worked together for several years and both expect to benefit from the new arrangement, said Laura Ten Eyck, manager of Indian Ladder Farms and a member of the family that has owned the property, on 325 acres between Altamont and Voorheesville, for more than a century. She said Collar City’s mushrooms and fungi-based products will be sold in the farm store, due to reopen March 15 following a renovation necessitated by a fire in September, and the companies will expand a relationship that in the past had Collar City Mushrooms hosting dinners at Indian Ladder and providing fresh mushrooms for Indian Ladder’s menus as well as for use in making some of its beers and hard ciders.”

WSWHE BOCES picks Wilton site for new campus

“A new campus for the BOCES that serves the North Country could be built off Ballard Road near the Target distribution center in Wilton, according to documents filed with the town.

A single-purpose subsidiary of Community Initiatives Development Corp., a Florida-based nonprofit developer that’s helped facilitate expansion projects for the Capital Region BOCES in Colonie, is the applicant for the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES project in Wilton, according to the documents.”

RPI and GlobalFoundries Partner on Semiconductor Workforce Development

“Building on several ongoing collaborations, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and GlobalFoundries (GF) are working together to further grow and strengthen the semiconductor workforce in the region.

RPI has launched a partnership program with GF to provide their employees with opportunities to pursue degrees and enhance their skills in semiconductor technology. Through dedicated RPI scholarships and GF’s tuition assistance program, GF employees will be able to pursue a new Master of Science in Semiconductor Technology (MaST) degree and take part in other graduate programs including Rensselaer at Work certificates.”

PPL moves HQ to Albany with plans to hire at least 250 employees

“A large company is moving its headquarters to the Albany area after being awarded a major state contract and is in the process of hiring more than 250 employees in the region.

Public Partnerships LLC (PPL) won the contract to administer New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program in September. The program allows Medicaid recipients that qualify for a home health aid or personal care assistant to hire a caregiver of their choice. About 250,000 New Yorkers use the program, according to the state.”

UAlbany offers scholarships to attract students to nano college

“The University at Albany is using federal funding to create scholarships for top-end students interested in its nanotechnology science and engineering programs that focus on training workers and researchers for the computer chip industry.

The Semiconductor and Microelectronics Leadership Program will provide $5,000 scholarships to “exceptional” high school or transfer students who enroll in UAlbany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science and Engineering, or CNSE.”
