Today’s announcement that NY CREATES’ Albany NanoTech Complex will be home to the CHIPS for America EUV Accelerator, an NSTC facility, solidifies our region’s position as the global leader in semiconductor innovation. The corresponding federal investment of $825 million accelerates the Capital Region high-tech ecosystem while attracting jobs. EUV, or Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography, is the technology used to make the most advanced chips, which means Albany is driving the leading edge of innovation for the world.
Despite strong competition from other states, Albany was uniquely positioned to house the NSTC’s CHIPS for America EUV Accelerator. The capabilities that we have here are the most advanced in the country. We thank Senator Majority Leader Schumer for his leadership in getting the CHIPS legislation passed and for championing Albany as the ideal site for the NSTC.
The designation follows the $1 billion investment by Governor Hochul earlier this year to create the High NA EUV Lithography Center at Albany NanoTech. Together, these investments and the NSTC CHIPS for America EUV Accelerator designation support the research and development of the world’s most complex and powerful semiconductors.
This designation is a win for the region, state, and nation. NSTC is the core R&D component of the CHIPS and Science Act that was signed into law last year. The EUV Accelerator will serve as a collaboration hub for our nation’s entire semiconductor manufacturing and supplier ecosystem. It will accelerate cutting-edge innovation in domestic semiconductor design and manufacturing.
CEG has been actively engaged in semiconductors for more than two decades. This announcement builds on our region’s success and positions us well for further investment. Our region’s fully enabled ecosystem has skilled talent, workforce development programs, research universities, private sector R&D, and the supply chain, along with the infrastructure necessary for companies to locate and grow here. Our region stands ready to host the NSTC facility, support its training needs, help new companies invest, and facilitate expansion projects.
We commend Governor Hochul for enacting complementary CHIPS legislation, significant investment, and for being a true partner for our state to capitalize on this historic opportunity. Thank you again to Senator Schumer for his vision and determination. Deep appreciation to the NY CREATES team for their expertise and for leading the consortium that prepared the comprehensive submittal for Albany to compete for the NSTC designation.
This announcement marks an exciting chapter in our region’s future; one that ushers in a new era of innovation and opportunity.
Onward,
Mark N. Eagan, CCE President and CEO Center for Economic Growth
