NYSERDA & CEG Launch the State’s First Solarize Campaign for Manufacturers

Announcement Made at Dimension Fabricators NY-Sun Supported Solar Array Ribbon-Cutting
Supports State’s Goal of 50 Percent Electricity to Come from Renewable Sources by 2030
The New York Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) launched the first state-supported Solarize campaign aimed at helping manufacturers install clean-energy producing solar systems. The campaign will bring together potential solar customers in the Capital Region to receive competitive pricing through joint purchasing arrangements. Expanding the adoption of solar installations by manufacturers is vital to supporting Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s energy requirement for 50 percent of New York’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2030.
The Solarize campaign was announced during a ribbon-cutting at Dimension Fabricators, in Glenville, where the 942-kilowatt (kW) installation will provide energy equivalent to that needed to power 150 homes annually. President and CEO of NYSERDA Alicia Barton, Congressman Paul Tonko, President and CEO of CEG Andrew Kennedy, President of Dimension Fabricators Scott Stevens, and local business leaders were on hand for the event, which highlighted how manufacturers could benefit from solar installations.

?CEG’s SolarGEN Solarize campaign targets manufacturers looking to install commercial solar systems, but non-manufacturing commercial sites are also eligible. Customers will use a “Solar Profile” that records key facility information that is useful for partnering with developers who wish to bid on a project. The program aggregates this information, enabling each facility to obtain individual bids from up to three vetted developers. The campaign streamlines the process, saving customers time and money. CEG SolarGEN is receiving funds through the State’s Solarize program, now in its third round, launched last year. Governor Cuomo announced that 850 solar projects have already been installed or are in development throughout New York State as a result of the second round of the Solarize campaign.
Dimension Fabricators’ solar array was developed by EnterSolar and features approximately 3,310 solar panels. The rooftop solar array covers the entire roof of one of the company’s buildings, with 3,310 panels. The solar array was supported with $369,636 in funding through NY-Sun and payback for the $1.9-million system is expected within six years, reducing their operating costs. Dimension Fabricators manufactures concrete reinforcing steel and related materials.
Scott Stevens, President of Dimension Fabricators said, “This investment makes us environmentally friendly and our products sustainable, things our customers are always asking for. We already installed LED lighting and made several other energy reduction investments, but this array is a serious effort that will reduce our carbon footprint by 700 metric tons per year! The benefits provided by NYSERDA and the federal investment tax credit will reduce our payback to around six years. But, despite all that, this is just the right thing to do.”

Both Dimension Fabricators and the CEG SolarGEN campaign received support from NY-Sun, Governor Cuomo’s $1 billion initiative to advance the scale-up of solar and move the State closer to having a sustainable, self-sufficient solar industry. Since 2011, solar in New York State has increased nearly 800 percent and leveraged nearly $1.5 billion in private investments. There are more than 8,000 people engaged in solar jobs across New York.
