IBM CEO says new quantum computer at RPI could spark major economic growth

“The CEO of IBM sees a significant opportunity in the Albany region.

Arvind Krishna was at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Friday for the unveiling of a new quantum computer on the campus in Troy. RPI is the first university in the world to house one of the cutting-edge machines.”

RPI opens 20 acres for development at Rensselaer Technology Park

“Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is laying the groundwork for future growth at its 1,250-acre technology park in North Greenbush, which is already home to more than 60 companies and organizations.

The Troy university recently signed a mutual consent agreement with the town to allow for potential development within a roughly 150-foot-wide strip of land that cuts across the technology park off Route 4.”

Dimension Fabricators in Glenville set to expand

“The company recently brought forward plans to construct a 12,500-square-foot extension to house a piece of automated fabrication equipment at its 152,000-square-foot facility that would count out steel rods, cut them to length and bundle them together before they are shipped out, company vice president Todd Stevens said.”

Kiernan Plaza in downtown Albany to be named Union Station again

“As they pursue a $14 million redevelopment of downtown Albany’s historic former train station, the new owners want to bring back its original name: Union Station.

‘Union Station is what that is,’ said Jeff Buell of Redburn Development Partners of Schenectady. ‘We should follow in the footsteps of these buildings that have been redeveloped across the country.’”
