Inside ETEC — UAlbany’s Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex
“After eight years of planning and three years of construction, a new $180 million building at the University at Albany is nearly complete.
Faculty are beginning to move into the 246,000-square-foot Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex, just east of UAlbany’s main campus on the Harriman State Office Campus. There will be some operations at the building starting this fall, with a ribbon cutting expected later this year.”
Software coding program grows into something special
“Back in 2016 when it was launched, AlbanyCanCode had aspirations to turn people in the Capital Region into software programmers — especially those who were out of work or had a hidden talent for coding and just had never found their professional calling.
After just five years, and one pandemic, AlbanyCanCode has become such a successful model – including outside the region to places downstate and even out of the state — that it had to change its name.”
Trophecase releases new version after landing lead investor
“A social media startup for athletes called Trophecase has released the next version of its platform and has secured a confidential lead investor. The size of the investment has not been disclosed.
Trophecase already has thousands of users since it was launched early last week, and the plan is to have many more in the next year. With big plans ahead, the Schenectady startup is seeking additional investment.”
Hudson receives record sales tax check
“City Treasurer Heather Campbell said Hudson received one of its largest sales tax checks to
the tune of more than half a million dollars.
Campbell said at the Hudson Common Council meeting Monday that the city received a $585,000 sales tax check last week — the highest the city has ever seen, she said. It’s the first check the city has received this year, Campbell said.”
RAD Soap Co. is moving its headquarters and production to Glenville
“RAD Soap Co. is moving to Glenville under a deal that will put the specialty soap and lotion business closer to its shipping partner in Schenectady County.
RAD will move its headquarters, production and warehouse operations in late fall from 8 Wolfert Ave. in the Albany County village of Menands to a building at 53 Freemans Bridge Road.”
“Since before the pandemic —and even more since then— colleges have been looking for ways to make higher education more relevant to the modern needs of students.
Among those efforts have been the addition of new programs and corporate partnerships that give students training and experiences that can be directly applied to the workforce
