Capital Region Cancer Research to Sponsor Precision Medicine Symposium on June 11

ALBANY, NEW YORK – The Capital Region Cancer Research group (CRCR) on June 11 will sponsor a symposium as part of their CRCR New Frontiers Series, entitled “Precision Medicine in Cancer Treatment and Prevention.” This virtual event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be the seventh such cancer symposium in this series.

The symposium will feature leading cancer research experts, cutting-edge medical oncologists, community-based cancer patient organizations, and selected presentations from graduate student and post-doc trainees. The symposium is intended to bring together investigators in New York’s Capital Region who work on various aspects of cancer

“Precision medicine is transforming the medical treatment landscape including cancer care. This approach takes advantage of cutting-edge technologies and diagnostics that identify and target molecular nuances to ultimately tailor therapies to individual patients. These technologies include many that will be presented as part of this symposium including theranostics, cytokine-directed therapy, Fluorescent Lifetime FRET imaging, single-cell transcriptomic profiling, and even artificial intelligence as well as the patient-based MYLUNG initiative to improve understanding of molecular testing challenges to improve lung cancer patient care. These and other new strategies promise to play a major role in contributing to the ultimate goal of the CRCR and our attending community organizations – the cure of cancer,” said Dana R. Crawford, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Albany Medical College and Chair of the CRCR.

The CRCR is an inter-institutional organization that was created in the Capital Region in the summer of 2006. The purpose of the group is to promote cancer research interactions among different Albany area facilities and personnel. Member organizations include Wadsworth Center, SUNY-Albany, Albany Medical Center (AMC), General Electric (GE), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Albany College of Pharmacy (ACPHS/PRI), Stratton VA Medical Center, Taconic Biosciences, Inc., and New York Oncology Hematology (NYOH).
