AngioDynamics’ vision: ‘Moving up the food chain from department store to high-tech device maker’
“Jim Clemmer is determined to transform AngioDynamics from what he describes as a department store into a high-tech manufacturer that can change the way surgeons treat tumors and keep blood flowing to and from the heart.
Shortly after he took over as chief executive officer in April 2016, Clemmer decided if the company wanted to grow faster, it needed to change.”
Amazon opening last-mile delivery operation in Colonie
“Amazon is opening a “last mile” delivery station in Colonie that will specialize in handling heavy and bulky items.
The facility will be a part of the Amazon logistics network that the company refers to as ‘AMXL.’”
Schenectady narrows list of Downtown Revitalization Initiative priority projects
“Consultants for the city of Schenectady have narrowed down a list of potential priority projects for the city’s $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.
The projects are aimed at creating a vibrant urban center, increasing connectivity, growing the workforce and building the arts and culture scene.”
State to buy property to help create Susan B. Anthony historic site in Greenwich
“The state’s purchase of a property adjacent to Susan B. Anthony’s childhood home in Battenville will allow the development of the house as a publicly accessible historic site, state and local officials announced Tuesday.
The 1805 tavern and its 4 acres “unlocks the (Anthony) site physically and for interpretation,” said state Historic Preservation Officer Daniel MacKay.”
Plug Power broadens product line, adds fuel cells for drones and robots
“Plug Power has introduced a 1 kilowatt fuel cell for small robots and drones, a little more than a year after acquiring the technology from Montreal-based EnergyOr for $1.5 million.
“Plug Power is now able to take its first steps into the world of aerospace,” said Andy Marsh, chief executive of the Latham company.”
Saratoga County IDA ready to buy 20 acres near GlobalFoundries
“The Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency is on the verge of acquiring 20 acres near GlobalFoundries in a move designed to bring more jobs to the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta.
Nearly three years after signing a contract to purchase the property for $1.68 million, the vacant site now has access to enough power, sewer and water to support a manufacturing plant, multiple office buildings or a research center. Natural gas lines are being installed now.”
Regeneron teams up with Swiss drugmaker to boost production of Covid-19 treatment
“Regeneron Pharmaceuticals would nearly quadruple production capacity of its Covid-19 antibody cocktail under a new agreement with Swiss drug maker Roche.
‘This major collaboration with Roche provides important scale and global expertise to bring REGN-COV2 to many more patients,’ said Regeneron president and chief executive Len Schleifer.”
Capital Region slowly regaining jobs lost to pandemic
“The Capital Region and national economies continue to struggle as the coronavirus continues to spread new data Thursday suggests.
On Thursday, the state Labor Department reported 46,800 jobs had been lost in July compared to a year ago. While the gap has narrowed — the shortfall was 57,700 in June, and 65,500 in May — a flurry of layoff notices suggested progress may be slowing.”
Television series set to be filmed in Schenectady Armory
“A production company is gearing up to shoot the next season of a show in Schenectady, using the old armory as a sound stage and venturing out for location shots in the area.
As they shop for locations and support services, scouts have openly dropped the name of the show and its owner — Amazon Prime Video’s romantic comedy “Modern Love” — and said filming is set to begin around Sept. 8.”
