ALBANY -- Plans for the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial aim to leave an impression on youngsters for years to come, Quadricentennial Commission Director Robert Bullock told this month's Albany Roundtable. The 2009 events celebrate the 400th anniversary of European exploration of the Hudson River and Lake Champlain, as well as the 200th anniversary of the first long-distance steamboat voyage, which took place in 1807 on the Hudson.
"When we were putting the plans together, it was with more of an eye toward what would last," Bullock said at Wednesday's gathering.
