For the first time in eight years, there will be no Summit in Tech Valley. "We're not going to do it this year," said John Spadafora, spokesman for the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber has organized the event since 2001, which was typically held in April or May. It's drawn major speakers, such as former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw and CNN's Lou Dobbs. It also provided a jump start for winners of the $100,000 business plan competition. Winners included: Celery LLC, a Troy company that created a system that allows people to send and receive e-mails using a regular printer rather than a computer; BullEx Digital Safety, a North Greenbush company that makes a fire extinguisher training system; and Starfire Systems, a Malta company that manufactures ceramic polymers and compounds used in a number of applications, including brake systems.
