More than 400 people turned out at the University at Albany's SEFCU Arena on Dec. 8 to honor Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings and support the establishment of the Gerald D. Jennings Class of '76 Scholarship Fund. As sponsors of this event, we highlight both the number of people attending and the new scholarship fund, because these facts offer a more complete view of what occurred than was depicted in your Dec. 9 story. UAlbany Interim President George Philip announced the establishment of the scholarship fund at the event, noting that it was off to a fabulous start because of the combined contributions of sponsors, the many people who attended and others. Scholarship support plays a critical role in assuring that our young talent -- our future leaders -- have the means to obtain a UAlbany education. The new fund will support deserving undergraduate students who are residents of Albany. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need and academic achievement.
