STATISTICS released by the U.S. Department of Commerce shows export sales in the "Kingston Metropolitan Area" rose by nearly 40 percent from 2005 to 2006.
Local industry experts say the increase is the result of a concerted effort to branch out, but that it also exemplifies the decline of the dollar's value worldwide.
ACCORDING TO the report, which was released in January, local export sales rose from $114.53 million in 2005 to $160.28 million in 2006.
