Building a convention center is critical to region

I read with interest Fred LeBrun's column on developments related to the much-anticipated Albany convention center ("Convention center by the numbers," Jan. 27).
As a region, we have made great strides to become competitive in the global technology arena, including a series of exciting developments at Albany NanoTech; at Luther Forest in Malta; with GE in Schenectady; and with IBM in Troy, and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
