Bringing the world a bit closer: Trade representatives gather in Troy to talk about foreign markets

TROY -- About 100 businesspeople gathered at Hudson Valley Community College on Tuesday to learn how they can take advantage of foreign markets, especially as the weak dollar lifts U.S. exports. In an innovative new program, the state Department of Economic Development brought its trade representatives from all over the world to Troy as part of its International Road Show being held across the state this week. "It's been a home run, it's been overwhelming," said Peter Cunningham, New York's director of international trade, who created the show. 

 

Tuesday's luncheon, part of the all-day event at the college, was packed. Businesspeople traded stories over sandwiches of doing business abroad before listening to New York's trade representatives in Canada talk about opportunities in that country.
