$500K state grant will fund course to teach manufacturers new skills

Area manufacturers will soon have a new outlet for acquiring "21st century skills" to benefit their companies.

The Chief Executives Network, a group of about 75 area manufacturers, will unveil a new educational program in the spring to teach manufacturers and their employees and give them needed training on sales and "lean" manufacturing techniques. The project is coordinated through the Center for Economic Growth Inc. and received $500,000 in state funds at Thursday's meeting of the Empire State Development Corp.

"Nobody else is doing this for small manufacturers," said Randy Putnam, head of the Chief Executives Network and president of Specialty Silicone Products Inc. in Ballston Spa.
